Who We Are
Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Today, Habitat for Humanity is a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found hope in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem—to provide decent housing for all. Habitat for Humanity is the largest not-for-profit homebuilder in the world, and Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County is proud to be the sixth-oldest affiliate in the United States. Founded in Beaumont in 1978 and incorporated in 1979, our affiliate has grown alongside the increasing need for affordable housing throughout our region.
As our mission expanded beyond Beaumont, we became Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County, Texas — a name that reflects the wider community we serve. Since our beginning, we have built more than 122 homes, providing safe and stable housing for over 500 people. And we’re just getting started. Together, we can continue building a stronger future for families across Jefferson County, Texas.
