It’s always hard to find volunteers to work in the hot Texas summer, so we were grateful when Thrivent sent a group of volunteers for a week, mid-July. They spent the week in Orange, Texas building a home for Ramona Duggans. Ramona came out and worked alongside the volunteers.
The Thrivent teams are dedicated builders and pushed this project farther than we anticipated. The weather was threatening when they first arrived, so we erected our general purpose tent on site for shade and protection from the rain.
We are always thrilled when experienced volunteers spend time with us.
The Thrivent team worked tirelessly and we are so grateful for their dedication to the mission of Habitat. As the week progressed, more and more structure was visible on site.
By the end of the build week, all four exterior walls were erected and Ramona was thrilled!
It’s so much easier to imagine a home when you can walk within the walls and envision the space. The Thrivent team helped Ramona realize her lifelong goal of home ownership.
The lot in Orange was donated to us after the previous home was severely damaged during Hurricane Harvey. We are pleased to be able to be a part of rebuilding the community of Orange, Texas.
